Myopathies

Myopathies encompass a range of muscle disorders that result in weakness, pain, and muscle wasting. These conditions may arise from genetic mutations, autoimmune diseases, medication side effects, and hormonal imbalances.

Types of Myopathies

Treatable Myopathies

Inflammatory Myositis: This is a group of inflammatory muscle diseases, including polymyositis and dermatomyositis. These autoimmune disorders cause muscle inflammation and weakness and can also affect other body systems.

Statin-Associated Myopathies: Statins, which are medications used to lower cholesterol, can occasionally cause muscle damage. Statin-associated myopathies range from mild muscle pain to severe conditions like rhabdomyolysis, which can lead to kidney damage.
